Can my Vietnamese girlfriend come to Australia with a holiday Visa?
My girlfriend lives in Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam, and it's been a while since I last saw her in person when I traveled to Vietnam. I live in Australia, and I want to pay for her to come here and see me. But according to some sources, she would apparently require sufficient funding before being able to acquire a visa... This to me, does not sound right. Sources also inform me that sponsorship is an alternative, but the sponsor must be directly related. Australia being one of the most multi-cultural acceptant countries in the world, and with such a strong tourism economy, none of these sources sound right... Please tell me there is a logical means for my girlfriend to come and see me here in Australia. The concept of my countries laws forbidding her to come and see me breaks my heart.. thank you in advance
People from Vietnam and similar countries are often granted visas to visit relatives and friends in Australia but due to the immigration record of many people from those countries, they are required to provide solid evidence of their intention to keep to the conditions of their visa.
She can apply for a subclass 676 Tourist visa but must be able to satisfy Australian immigration that she a) has access to sufficient funds to pay for her expenses in Australia without working and b) that she has sufficiently strong ties to her home country that she will return there without overstaying her visa.

a) can be handled by you writing a letter to her setting out the fact that you will provide all accommodation, living expenses and spending money during her stay in Australia - a letter promising financial support is not the same as sponsoring her. You will be required to provide details of your finances so that she can include them with your letter when she applies for her visa.
b) is more likely to cause problems with getting her visa. She is from a very high risk (of overstaying) country so she will need to provide evidence that will satisfy DIAC that she is unlikely to overstay. If she is employed, she must provide confirmation from her employer of her employment status (her income and period of employment) and the period of approved leave. If she is a student, she should provide evidence of enrolment at school, college or university. She should also provide as much other information as possible to show that she has an incentive and authority to return to her home country. More Tourist visas applications are denied on the grounds of insufficient ties to the home country than for financial reasons.
